May 2nd Brimstone Board Game Night - Featuring: Roll for the Galaxy

It's time for Brimstone Board Game Night!

The Windsor Gaming Resource returns to Brimstone Games on Saturday May 2nd.

Brimstone Board Game Night hits on the 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month. These events normally run from 5pm to 10pm and are open to all ages.

Reminder:
At Brimstone all board games are 30% off all the time.

You can win a board game!

Every Board Game Night at 8pm the store will draw 1 ticket and the winner will receive a free board game! Sometimes we get extra generous and give away more than one. Heck one night we gave away 6. No matter what there will be at least 1 game given away every event.

Players earn 1 ticket for playing games, 1 ticket for purchasing a snack or drink, and 1 ticket for bringing 1 or more board games for people to play. Earn 5 more tickets for each game you purchase. First time players will receive 5 additional tickets.

You can find Brimstone at 3298 Walker Rd. Parking is available on the south side of the building and on the city streets around back.

Featured Game: Roll for the Galaxy
The original plan was to feature X-Wing from Fantasy Flight but something came up and the X-Wing night and tournament scheduled later in May is going to get pushed out a week or two.

Instead we are featuring another awesome Sci-Fi game: Roll for the Galaxy. This is a great implementation of the amazing card game Race for the Galaxy.

Roll for the Galaxy is much easier to learn and understand while still keeping a good amount of strategy and tactics. The components are top notch and the way the game uses the dice as resources is rather brilliant.

As usual we will be doing demos of the game all night and we will be giving away a copy of this great strategy game.

Regnum Angelica; card battle in the Angelic Realm

A little while back I was contacted by Casey Willett of Black Locust Game Co. about a game called Regnum Angelica. Casey noted that he was looking for more Canadian exposure for their game and asked if I would be willing to review it.

I did a bit of research and found out that Regnum Angelica was originally kickstarted under the name Kingdom and was a two player card battle game fought between the arch angels led by Gabriel and the fallen angels under Beelzebub. The game appeared to have some chess like elements and an interesting combat mechanic so I agreed to check it out.

I've now played quite a few games of Regnum Angelica and I have to say that Black Locust has a rather solid interesting game here. It's a lot more deep than it first appears on the surface. The seemingly simple combat system actually adds a lot of tactical depth to the game. Added to the gameplay is a beautiful looking game with some really cool bits.

Games & Grub - April 24th

WINDSOR STAR NEWS CAFE

Friday April 24th we've got a Games & Grub event being held at The Green Bean's Windsor Star News Cafe. This all ages event runs from 6pm until 11pm.

The Windsor Star News Cafe is located at 300 Ouellette Ave, 3rd floor. This is the cafe that is part of the new Windsor Star located where the old downtown Palace Theater was.

The Windsor Star News Cafe has great food, coffee and other yummy things. The location is also licensed and offers some awesome beer from Walkerville Brewery as well as local Wines. Street parking is free after 6pm if you can find a spot and there are two parking garages in a very short walking distance if you can't.

We play a wide variety of games at these events. You will find card, dice and board games. We've even seen some miniature gamers bring their armies out. There's no theme to the event. Our last gaming event saw games of Epic Spell Wars, Feif, Zombie Flux, Mars Attacks, Castle Ravenloft, Cheaty Mages, Deus, Fluxx, Among the Stars, Colt Express and more.

We encourage you to bring some games out, whether an old favourite or something new you want to try out. If you don't have anything to bring, that's cool too. There's always lots of variety and people are always happy to teach you the games they have brought.

Featured Game: Smash Up

In Smash Up players take two factions, such as pirates, ninja, robots, zombies, and more, and combine their decks into a force to be reckoned with!

When the game begins, players take turns drafting one of several faction decks. Once each player has two decks, they shuffle them together, combining their distinct abilities into a unique 40-card deck. Players then deal out a number of Base cards, and play their decks to attempt to have the most power on a base when it is scored.

Each combination gives a different experience, Pirate-Aliens play very different than Pirate-Zombies, and with 8 factions in the base set there are tons of combinations to try out!

Celebrate International Tabletop Day in Windsor on April 11th

2015 marks the third year for International Tabletop Day. A day in celebration of all kinds of tabletop gaming started by Wil Wheaton and the people behind the Tabletop YouTube channel. A channel that is likely responsible for bringing more people into modern board gaming than anything else out there.

The goal of Tabeltop Day matches the goal of the Windsor Gaming Resource: to get people out there and gaming. It's a day to celebrate sitting down with friends, face to face and playing games.

Last year Tabletop Day was celebrated in 80 countries over all 7 continents and they expect it will be even bigger this year. Windsor has participated every year to date and this year is no exception.

Here in the City of Roses, two FLGS (Friendly Local Game Stores) will be participating in the Tabletop Day events:

Brimstone Games: is located at 3298 Walker Road and will be hosting 12 hours of gaming. They open at 10am and will be hopping until 10pm.

In addition to open gaming Brimstone will be giving away a copy of Three Kingdoms Redux, there will be an in store X-Wing tournament and an Android Netrunner Tournament. The local Dice Master's players are also setting something up.

The CG Realm: is located at 3147 Tecumseh Rd. East and will be open from noon until 11pm.

In addition to Tabletop Day stuff, it's also the usual CG Realm Game Day which will be running from 5-11 where they will be featuring Dungeons & Dragons Dice Masters. You can win a copy to take home.

Both venues will have their gaming areas open for free gaming all day. There are also a slew of cool Tabletop Day Promos that each store will be giving out throughout the day.

It doesn't matter which store you head out to, just get out there, join in the fun and play some games!

CG Realm Game Night - April 11th featuring D&D Dice Masters

Saturday April 11th is International Tabletop Day. In addition to the celebrations the CG Realm is hosting their regular CG Real Game Night open game night. The event runs from 5pm until 11pm.

The CG Realm is located at 3147 Tecumseh Road East, right here in Windsor.

In addition to a growing collection of games for sale and demo games for you to try out, they also have a great gaming area with lots of tables, lots of room and great lighting.

Featured Game: Dungeons & Dragons Dice Masters: Battle for Faerûn

At the event CG Realm will be featuring the hot new collectible dice building game: D&D Dice Masters: Battle for Faerun. There will be demo copies on hand and people willing to teach this great game.

This is the third Dice Masters game to be released from Wizkids and many consider it the best of the three. In addition to the rules from previous sets, heroes in D&D Dice Masters can level up by killing enemy characters and monsters.

As part of the event they will be giving away one copy of a D&D Dice Masters Starter Set. The perfect place to start out in this great new game.
