CG Ream CGame night featuring Magic The Gathering - Arena of the Planeswalkers

The 2nd Saturday of every month the Windsor Gaming Resource is proud to promote The CG Realm CGame night.

The CG Realm is located at 3147 Tecumseh Road East, right here in Windsor.

In addition to a growing collection of games for sale and demo games for you to try out, they also have a great gaming area with lots of tables, lots of room and great lighting.

Featured Game: Magic the Gathering - Arena of the Planeswalkers

Magic the Gathering in board game form.

This game is an update of the popular Heroscape system from Wizards of the Coat and in my opinion is an improvement on the original in almost all ways.

Great looking minis, quick gameplay, easy to learn and teach and so much faster to set up than the original. The way the cards work really brings the Magic feel home and ads a great level of tactics to the game.

You get an insane amount of stuff for the price point. Full armies for all five colours of mana including pre-painted planeswalker minis. All for a fantastically low price for what you get.

Every event will feature at least one game. There will be demo copies of the game available and someone on hand willing to teach the game so you can try before you buy.

You can win games just by coming out to play. At every Brimstone Board Game Night you can earn tickets that give you a chance to win free games. Every event we will be giving away a copy of the featured game (see below) and some events we will be giving away even more.

Players earn 1 ticket for playing games, 1 ticket for purchasing a snack or drink, and 1 ticket for bringing 1 or more board games for people to play. Earn 5 more tickets for each game you purchase. First time players will receive 5 additional tickets.

You can find Brimstone at 3298 Walker Rd. Parking is available on the south side of the building and on the city streets around back.

It's Hat Night!

Get extra ticket into the game draw for wearing a hat. Bonus tickets if you wear a cowboy hat. (This one seems to be made for Sean Hamilton).

Why a bonus for cowboy hats? Well that's because we are featuring the hot new dexterity game Flick 'em Up!

The cities in the West are not the safest place to be. In the disc-flicking game Flick 'em Up!, you can become an outlaw and rob banks, free prisoners, attack innocent bystanders... or you could become the Sheriff and try to protect the people of your city from these bandits!

Games & Grub at the Windsor Star News Cafe - Aug. 28th

WINDSOR STAR NEWS CAFE

Friday August 28th we've got a Games & Grub event being held at The Green Bean's Windsor Star News Cafe. This all ages event runs from 5pm until 11pm.

The Windsor Star News Cafe is located at 300 Ouellette Ave, 3rd floor. This is the cafe that is part of the new Windsor Star located where the old downtown Palace Theater was.

The Windsor Star News Cafe has great food, coffee and other yummy things. The location is also licensed and offers some awesome beer from Walkerville Brewery as well as local Wines. Street parking is free after 6pm if you can find a spot and there are two parking garages in a very short walking distance if you can't.

We play a wide variety of games at these events. You will find card, dice and board games. We've even seen some miniature gamers bring their armies out. There's no theme to the event. Our last gaming event saw games of Sheriff of Nottingham, Resident Evil, Lanterns, Elysium, Gravwell, DC Deck Building Game, and a whole lot more.

We encourage you to bring some games out, whether an old favourite or something new you want to try out. If you don't have anything to bring, that's cool too. There's always lots of variety and people are always happy to teach you the games they have brought.

Featured game: Cacao

As a follow up to our Carcassonne game night we have another tile laying game. While Carc. is an old classic Cacao is the new hotness.
Cacao is a tile-placement game that immerses players in the exotic world of the "fruit of the Gods". As the chief of your tribe, you must lead your people to prosperity through the cultivation and trade of cacao — and to do that, you'll need to put them to work in the best way possible.

In the game, each player has an individual deck of square worker tiles, with the number of workers on each side of the tile varying from tile to tile. The playing area starts with only a couple of jungle tiles in play: a cacao field and a small market; two jungle tiles are laid face up, and the remaining jungle tiles stacked as a draw pile.

On a player's turn, she places one of her worker tiles on the board adjacent to one or more jungle tiles already in play, then (if two worker tiles are next to an empty space) adds one of the jungle tiles to the playing area in this space. Her workers then get busy and deliver the results of their effort: If you placed workers next to a cacao field, you receive one or two cacao markers per worker; if they're next to a market, you can choose to sell one cacao marker per worker at the listed price; if next to a well, you receive water; if next to a temple, they stand and look good until the end of the game; and so on. She then refills her hand from her personal deck to three worker tiles.

Once all players have used all of their worker tiles, the game ends. Players score (or lose) points based on their water supply, and each temple rewards whichever players sent the most workers to it. In the end, whoever has collected the most gold wins.
